Get A Free Skin In The Robot Art Jam!

It is time for another art jam! This time around, your challenge will be to customize a robot 🤖. Give it a fun new paint job, animate it, or even give it all new parts. How far you take it is completely up to you. Everyone who customizes the robot object & enters it in the jam will be rewarded with a free skin to wear across all the games on dot big bang!

The deadline for submissions is May 5th. Skins will be sent out to all participants shortly after the art jam ends (give us a few days to hand them all out). After that, we’ll do a wrap-up stream to check out all the amazing robot entries!

How To Enter

1. Make Your Robot

Hit the Remix button (the cloud with an arrow, at the top left of the screen) on this base object. This creates your personal copy that you can paint, decorate, or animate – the decision is yours!

2. Make a Thumbnail

When your robot is ready, open the save panel at the top right. Click New Thumbnail to take a picture of your robot. Tip: move the camera for a better angle, and change the background using the color picker!

3. Name Your Robot & Save

Finally, name your robot (include “Robot”). Check “Published”, and click Save. That’s it, you’re all done!

You can show us your work by posting a link in the #events channel on our Discord – and see the awesome robots other people are making while you’re there! Discord is also the place to ask questions about the Voxel Object Editor, or anything else that comes up. The development team is there, and will be happy to help.

Finally – we’ll host a wrap-up stream on YouTube when the jam is over to check out all the awesome things people made. Sub to our channel and turn on notifications to know when we go live.

Good luck and have fun creating!

Sproooing: dot big bang v0.9.17

The latest update to dot big bang is out – and it’s a big one for gamedevs.

Firstly, we’ve added a key component of our engine to the Scripting API for the first time: AUDIO! With this update it’s now trivial to play sounds, both spatialized in the world, and not from your code. Along with a myriad of other options this unlocks a great deal more flexibility for adding life to your game with sound. We can’t wait to see what you all do with this – there’s some tutorial material on the way to show you how to use it.

For the gamers out there we’ve added a bunch more free cosmetic items to celebrate Lunar New Year, updated the avatar customization scene with a springtime feel, and fixed a whole heap of bugs!

Read on for more details.
